Myriam Desrosiers, LMT - Therapeutic Massage Back Pain Relief, Headache Relief, Sport Massage, Relaxation, Thai Yoga Massage, Corporate Massage Lafayette, CO 80026 Sport massage should play an important part in the life of any active men and women. It helps maintain the body in better condition, improve flexibility, prevent injuries, reduce injury recovery time, enhance mental focus and improve performance. In my practice, I have the chance to work with many athletes and active people such as the Colorado Rapids, Optum Pro Cycling Team and WIDC Cycling Team. I, myself often receive sport massage. Last weekend for example, I rode the Double Triple Bypass. For those of you not familiar with this event, it consists of riding your bicycle for 240 miles, over 6 mountain passes, 22 315 feet of elevation gain, in only two days. I truly believe that sport massage helped me get ready for that event. You can book your session here. Myriam Desrosiers, LMT - Therapeutic Massage

Back Pain Relief, Headache Relief, Sport Massage, Relaxation, Thai Yoga Massage, Corporate Massage Lafayette, CO 80026 Article written by Trisha Haws, LMT, LST When was the last time you had a massage? Whether you run for fun, competition or stress relief, here are four ways massage therapy can significantly improve your running potential: 1. Reduced Muscle Pain and Fatigue When you have started a new training program, increased the intensity of your training or are simply just running more mileage, massage therapy can be extremely helpful. Often times, the increased workload results in muscle pain and fatigue. This pain is caused by the release of body-producing toxins such as lactic acid into the tissue. When left untreated, the tissue can become damaged over time. Where there is muscle damage, there is less circulation. Reduced circulation can lead to congestion, tightness and shortening of the tissue. 2. Increased Circulation and Blood Flow Massage increases circulation and blood flow. With this increased circulation, overall healing is expedited by triggering the immune system to promote a healing response in the tissue. Following a run, the body needs to recover from the stresses places upon it. When muscles are challenged during a run, the body releases toxins into the tissue. Massage is one of the quickest ways to promote recovery because it helps release these toxins from the tissue. In conjunction with proper hydration, toxins are flushed from the system, thus helping lessen soreness and fatigue while helping freshen your legs for your next workout. 3. Increased Flexibility Increasing an athlete’s range of motion can help improve performance. When we can move properly, we can run more efficiently. A good massage helps rebalance the musculoskeletal system. Runners frequently experience pain and tightness in the IT Band, Achilles tendon, knees and hamstrings. Many runners can pinpoint where they are experiencing pain. A good therapist will evaluate pre-exsiting conditions and postural errors that could be contributing to pain, as the source of pain is usually not where the pain is manifesting itself. For example, pain in the hamstring may be attributed to limited lumbar mobility. The hamstring could be over-stretched and compensating for shortening of the hip flexors. The body is like a weight and pulley system. When a muscle experiences fatigue from overuse, another muscle will kick in to try and bring balance back to the body. Often times, this secondary muscle is not meant to sustain that kind of responsibility. When left untreated, it undergoes strain and, much like a domino effect, other muscles become involved and affected. A good therapist will analyze all these factors and develop an appropriate treatment plan to help break a cycle of recurring injury. 4. Relaxation Lastly, massage promotes relaxation, which has myriad benefits. Relaxing the muscles also helps relax the mind and reduces stress, which can help re-energize you following a big race or tough workout, or even when the craziness of life combined with the demands of training start to wear on you. Lafayette, CO 80026 I have had a few clients coming to my practice suffering from frequent headaches. Although some of the causes of headaches come from outside my scope of practice, often, they are treatable with bodywork and good posture.
What do you do most during the day? Driving? Working on a computer? Most of us would say yes, and as we get fatigued, our posture becomes less than adequate. We slump our back, cross our legs, move our head forward, ect… A bad posture, over time, has a tremendous impact on our muscles and I discovered that with most of my clients suffering from headaches, posture is the main cause of their symptoms. There are different types of headaches and here are the two most common ones: Migraines: Migraines occur when the blood vessels in the brain become dilated. They often start with visual disturbances accompanied by nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and sensitivity to light. In many cases, a throbbing pain is felt on one side of the head. Tension Headaches: The most common type of headaches. Exaggerated by stress, tension headaches are often related to poor posture, jaw problems, sleep deprivation and eyestrain just to name a few. They typically start at the base of the skull and then move over the ears and behind the eyes. What can massage therapy do? Regular massage, good posture, and stress management can help prevent or greatly reduce the frequency of headaches. In my practice, I use a variety of techniques from Swedish and deep tissue massage to myofascial release. Since tension headaches are the result of increased stress and tension, massage is really effective with its relaxation and muscle tension relief effects. By addressing the cause of the problem instead of the symptoms, regular bodywork sessions along with proper posture can greatly reduce headaches and therefore the need for medication. You should’nt have to live with constant headaches. "In the last year, I began experiencing migraines with auras 2 to 3 times a week. I was frustrated with using medication to address symptoms, when I believed the cause was muscle tension in my neck and shoulders and subsequent misalignment of my vertebrae. After a few weeks of receiving targeted massage treatments with Myriam, my migraine issues subsided. Who wouldn't prefer weekly massages to weekly migraines? What a serious relief. Thank you, Myriam!" I have been a soigneur for professional cycling teams for many years. This year, I have the opportunity to work with the Optum squad. I truly enjoyed working with them as they are a great group of riders and staff. What is a soigneur? Some of you might be wondering what a soigneur is. Soigneur is a French word that means "one who cares for others". It is not only about providing sport massage to the athletes after a race, but it is also being a valet, cook, washer, driver, wound cleaner, and the list goes on. A typical day for a soigneur begins early preparing for the race, making sure the team cars are loaded with water bottles and race food. Riders like to have the choice between water and drink mix and having a great variety of food is also appreciated. Post-race recovery drinks and food must also be ready for the riders. During the race, soigneurs go to the feed-zone which is an area where they can hand bottles or musettes to the riders while standing inches away from them as they fly by. Musettes are feed bags and they usually contain a bottle with water and one with drink mix, a mini coke can, energy bars, food and gels. After the race, the soigneurs wait for their riders pass the finish line with cold drinks and towels to wipe away the dust and sweat. Later, after the race, as soon as the riders have showered and eaten, it's time for the recovery massages. Deep flushing of the legs, stretching are applied to help them recover faster and get their bodies ready to ride hard the next day. The soigneurs evening ends by preparing for the next day so everything runs smoothly for the team. Soigneurs are usually one of the first to be up in the morning and one of the last to go to bed at night, it is no doubt a lot of work, but it is also fun and rewarding. In a few days, I will be travelling to Canada for the Tour of Alberta. Follow us!
I would like to thank Casey Gibson for the pictures of myself in the feedzone and the one of Eric Young's podium. This type of bodywork involves opening the body’s energy lines through a combination of rhythmic compression, soft-tissue manipulation, acupressure and stretching. It is referred to as Thai Yoga Massage because the therapist will move you through series of yoga-like stretches. Thai Yoga Massage is felt as both relaxing and energizing as it includes deep muscular and energetic work along with movement. How is Thai Massage different from a ‘Regular’ Massage? A Thai Yoga Massage session differs from a Swedish massage in that it is conducted on a thick cushion on the floor and the client remains fully clothed in loose pants/shorts and a comfortable shirt. A session consists of dynamic and fluid combination of techniques that move, stretch and twist the client while they are positioned on their back, front, side and sitting cross-legged on the floor. How can Thai Yoga Massage help me? Athletes Athletes love Thai Yoga Massage because it helps keep them flexible and mobile. The range of motion and joint mobility work helps to stretch tight muscles while deep pressure on the muscles helps to release muscular holding patterns. This style of work does an amazing job of stretching out tight IT bands, hamstrings and provides great spinal range of motion. Injured clients Thai Yoga Massage can help support you thru an injury. Because it’s passive, you can completely relax and allow the practitioner to move you in supported, healthy ways…allowing your structure and muscles to release and unwind. It’s great for back or neck pain. Benefits of Thai Yoga Massage
