DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) What a good topic for me to write about today as I started a new workout yesterday and I am so feeling the muscle soreness today. What does exercise do to your muscles? When you exercise, some muscle tissue breakdown occurs. The pain you feel after a hard workout is actually microtears in the muscle tissue. With proper rest and nutrition, muscles repair, grow bigger and stronger. One needs to push its limits with incremental steps in order to get stronger, but rest is also important as exercising too much, too hard or when you haven't fully recover can hinder your performance and your health. Nutrition is also a key factor. Proper nutrition is the answer to many health questions including exercise recovery. A great simple post-workout beverage is chocolate milk as it has a great combination of protein, carbohydrates and calcium. Lastly, I personally like to incorporate the Deep Blue products from DoTerra in my workout regimen. You can read about them here: DoTerra Deep Blue. Myriam Desrosiers, LMT - Therapeutic Massage
